Let’s Talk Libraries: developing a new Dorset Council Library Strategy

We are developing a new library strategy which will shape the future of our Dorset Council library service.

Our library service is made up of:

  • 23 council run libraries
  • an online library service
  • a home library service, which delivers services to housebound residents

This survey refers to the 23 libraries we run, not the eight community managed libraries that we support.

The first phase of our consultation completed in January 2022. We received over 7,500 responses. By listening to your views, we have developed a draft strategy and our mission: To Inspire, Connect and Enable our communities through our services.

Why your views matter

We now need to refine the strategy. We need your help to prioritise and explore what the library service could look like in your community.

The survey is designed in two parts. Part one seeks your views on the draft strategy and part two explores what the library service could look like in your community. We would value your views on the whole survey, but please feel free to skip questions and answer only those which interest you. We estimate it takes 20 minutes to complete the whole survey.

The consultation will close on 22 December 2022.

  • Library Strategy Consultation Workshop - For Non-Library Customers

    From 16 Nov 2022 at 14:00 to 16 Nov 2022 at 16:00

    Come help shape the new draft Library Strategy for Dorset and earn yourself a £20 high street/supermarket voucher in the process!

    Open to adults who do not currently use the library service, this workshop aims to find out what the service can do to better meet the needs of Dorset’s communities. This is an exciting opportunity for you to attend a two-hour workshop where you can share your views and help to refine the new library strategy. This will be a hybrid workshop, so you can join in person at the Weymouth Library and Learning Centre in Weymouth, or you can join online from the comfort of your own home.
