Buckhorn Weston and Kington Magna Parish Council has prepared a draft neighbourhood plan. Before the plan can be adopted, it must undergo an independent examination and a referendum. The plan was submitted to Dorset Council for examination in October 2023. Dorset Council must hold a 6-week public consultation on the plan before the examination can start. This will take place between 10 November and 22 December 2023 (inclusive).

This is a regulation 16 consultation. Representations made at this stage can include a request to be notified of Dorset Council's decision under regulation 19 in relation to the neighbourhood plan. All comments received during the consultation period will be made available to the independent examiner. At the examination, an independent examiner will consider whether the plan meets certain basic conditions and satisfies other legal requirements. The basic conditions require that the plan must:
If the neighbourhood plan receives a favourable examination report, and is subsequently supported by a local referendum, it will become part of the development plan. Its policies will be used to make decisions on relevant planning applications in Buckhorn Weston and Kington Magna alongside other appropriate development plan policies.
This consultation is an opportunity for individuals, organisations and businesses to comment on the plan. To be effective, comments should focus on whether the plan meets the basic conditions, as outlined above. All comments made during the consultation period will be made available to the examiner. The deadline for comments is Friday 22 December 2023 (midnight).
