Buckhorn Weston and Kington Magna Neighbourhood Plan 2021 to 2038

Closes 22 Dec 2023

Opened 10 Nov 2023

Overview

Buckhorn Weston and Kington Magna Parish Council has prepared a draft neighbourhood plan. Before the plan can be adopted, it must undergo an independent examination and a referendum. The plan was submitted to Dorset Council for examination in October 2023. Dorset Council must hold a 6-week public consultation on the plan before the examination can start. This will take place between 10 November and 22 December 2023 (inclusive).

The submitted neighbourhood plan is:

It is supported by the following documents:

If you cannot access any of these documents, or would like to respond in an alternative way (such as a paper copy), please contact us using the contact details on this page.

This is a regulation 16 consultation. Representations made at this stage can include a request to be notified of Dorset Council's decision under regulation 19 in relation to the neighbourhood plan. For an overview of the neighbourhood plan process, please see a summary of the key stages in neighbourhood planning.

All comments received during the consultation period will be made available to the independent examiner. At the examination, an independent examiner will consider whether the plan meets certain basic conditions and satisfies other legal requirements. The basic conditions require that the plan must:

  • have regard to national planning policies and advice contained in guidance issued by the Secretary of State;
  • contribute to achieving sustainable development;
  • be in general conformity with the strategic policies of the development plan for the area (the North Dorset Local Plan Part 1);
  • not breach the requirements of Chapter 8 of Part 6 of the Conservation of Habitats and Species Regulations 2017; and
  • be compatible with EU obligations and human rights requirements.

If the neighbourhood plan receives a favourable examination report, and is subsequently supported by a local referendum, it will become part of the development plan. Its policies will be used to make decisions on relevant planning applications in Buckhorn Weston and Kington Magna alongside other appropriate development plan policies.

This consultation is an opportunity for individuals, organisations and businesses to comment on the plan. To be effective, comments should focus on whether the plan meets the basic conditions, as outlined above. All comments made during the consultation period will be made available to the examiner.
