Food Waste Collection Service Survey

Closed 26 Aug 2024

Opened 16 Jul 2024

Overview

The purpose of this survey is to find out more about people's views and experiences of using the Dorset Council food waste collection service so that we can improve it and encourage more people to participate.

Your views are so important to us that there is a prize of a £100 Love2Shop gift card for one lucky participant!

The prize draw is open to all UK residents aged 18 years and over who receive the Dorset Council Recycle for Dorset service, with the exception of Dorset Council employees and elected members. The prize draw terms and conditions can be found here

The survey should take you 5-8 minutes to complete. If you require an alternative format or a paper copy of the survey, please get in touch through the contact methods listed.

For information on how we use your data, please see our website: dorsetcouncil.gov.uk/data-protection

Why your views matter

We want to know how we can make the food waste service easier to use for those people who find it hard. Please be honest! We know everyone lives busy lives. The more we can find out, the more we can learn and improve our service.

  • We really want to hear from those people that don't use the service, or who use it very little.
  • We would also like to know if there is anything you don't understand about the service (e.g. what can be put in the food waste bin) that we can make clearer.

Putting food waste in the general rubbish bin harms the environment and costs us all a lot more money than if it's recycled in the food waste bin. That's why we need all households to recycle all their food waste.

Setting the scene

In the Dorset Council area, residents should have each of the following bins (not including those living in communal properties with a shared food bin e.g flats, or properties with a bag and box collection system):

The image shows a group of bins with 'Dorset Council' logos on them. There are two black wheelie bins: a green-lidded recycling bin, and a slightly smaller black-lidded rubbish bin. There is also an un-lidded green glass box, and two brown food waste containers. One of the food waste containers is larger (the food waste bin), and one is smaller (the food waste caddy).

Please note, some bins may vary in appearance and branding.

  • RECYCLING: 240 litre standard bin (emptied every two weeks)
  • RUBBISH (general waste): 140 litre standard bin (emptied every two weeks)
  • GLASS: 40 litre box (emptied every two weeks)
  • FOOD WASTE:
    • 23 litre food waste bin (kept outdoors, emptied every week)
    • 7 litre food waste caddy (kept indoors. Its contents are emptied into the 23 litre food waste bin or communal bin for collection)
  • BATTERIES: We provide a small red bag for batteries, but you can use your own and put it on top of your recycling bin for collection.

This is our entire 'Recycle For Dorset' service, but this survey will focus specifically on the food waste collections.
