Youth Voice Hub

Why should you get involved?

Youth Voice is all about making sure children and young people across Dorset are:

  • heard
  • listened to
  • respected
  • involved in shaping the things that matter to them

We work together with decision makers to help make Dorset a better place to live for everyone, both now and in the future.

The Youth Voice team works with children and young people to:

  • create safe, welcoming spaces where young people can express themselves in ways that feel right for them
  • share their views and make sure they’re heard in ways that work for them and decision makers
  • make sure that decision makers listen and that young people know what will happen next
  • know how their voice made a difference by sharing what’s changed as a result

You will:

  • use your voice, lead with other young people and create change in Dorset
  • learn new skills and take part in training
  • experience different opportunities and have fun at the same time
  • meet new people, including the decision makers
  • achieve a Dorset Award if you would like to

You get to be the change you wanna see, you don’t end up waiting around for other people who aren’t in your situation trying to solve things for you, you can actually go out there and do the things you know need to be done. I've not been involved for very long and I've already had so many opportunities

Your impact

You said and together we have:

Children Young People and Family Plan

We asked: What would make Dorset the best place to live?

You said: Many ideas were shared about why Dorset is a great place to grow up and what would make it even better

We did: A 10 year Children, Young People and Family’s Plan has been created and your voices helped to shape it, an Easy Read printed version is available with a youth friendly version coming soon.

New Belongings Project with Care Leavers

We asked: With the help of Coram Voice, we have asked care leavers every 2 years about their wellbeing. We have now completed 2 surveys like this over the last 4 years.

You said: You told us the priorities that you wanted to work with us on.

We did: We have worked with you to shape our action plan and meet regularly with care leavers who check the progress of the plan.

Young Commissioners

We asked: Children and young people with lived experience of advocacy and independent visitors, what they need from this support.

You said: You told us what is important.

We did: What you said helped to shape the questions which were asked to organisations interested in doing the work. We trained you to evaluate and score the presentations, helping to choose the winning bid.
