Milborne St Andrew village traffic management proposals

Overview

Dorset Council and Milborne St Andrew Parish Council would like your views on proposals to improve the pedestrian environment and slow vehicles travelling through the village.

Introduction

Milborne St Andrew Parish Council has asked for a traffic management scheme to be developed in line with the aspirations set out in the Neighbourhood Plan.

As part of this, Dorset Council’s highway service is working with the parish to look at ways to improve the pedestrian environment and slow vehicles travelling through the village centre.

The parish council is looking to use developer contributions on a scheme to:

  • slow down all traffic through the 30-mph speed limit area on the A354 in Milborne St Andrew
  • improve pedestrian safety, especially at the pinch point at the Royal Oak pub
  • provide clear road markings to ensure drivers are aware of the potential hazards

The traffic management scheme could include a combination of the following:

  • widening of the northern footway (adjacent to the pub) by building out into the eastbound carriageway. This would include:
    • introducing a priority system for vehicles through the narrowed section of road (priority given to westbound vehicles)
    • keep clear markings for Royal Oak access and Chapel Street junction
    • waiting restrictions for Royal Oak and Chapel Street junction
  • new uncontrolled crossing points, with five potential locations identified
  • enhanced village gateway road markings and signage
  • refreshed road markings, including edge of carriageway

Please be aware that there is not currently funding to deliver all the proposed traffic management options. Part of the purpose of this consultation is to understand what the public preference is from these proposals so that the most preferred options can be installed.

There are also 2 public events being held at the village hall

There are 2 public engagement events being held at the Milborne St. Andrew Village Hall. You can find out more about the proposals and have the opportunity to ask any questions you may have.
