Consultations on Admission Numbers for William Barnes Primary School and Wyke Regis Junior School - closing date 14 December 2025
Reduction in Admission Number: William Barnes Primary School
By Virtue of Schedule 3 of the School Organisation (Prescribed Alterations to Maintained Schools) (England) Regulations 2013, Dorset Council is required to consult on changes to provision at Maintained Schools including the reduction in Admission Numbers (AN).
The proposed AN will apply to admissions to the relevant age group (the normal year of entry) commencing from the beginning of the school year 2027/28 and for any subsequent school year. Notice is hereby given for the following changes:
| School | Current AN | Proposed AN |
|---|---|---|
| William Barnes Primary | 30 | 20 |
The reason for proposing lower AN is to set a level which more accurately reflects the number of actual admissions and enables the governing body of the relevant schools to plan more effectively for organisational and budgetary needs. Admissions to the schools will be in accordance with the admissions policy.
Any person may submit their comments, both positive and negative, to Ed Denham, School Organisation, Dorset Council, County Hall, Dorchester, DT1 1XJ or through email schoolorganisation@dorsetcouncil.gov.uk by Sunday 14 December 2025.
Signed: Paul Dempsey, Executive Director of People - Children, Dorset Council.

Reduction in Admission Number: Wyke Regis Junior School
By Virtue of Schedule 3 of the School Organisation (Prescribed Alterations to Maintained Schools) (England) Regulations 2013, Dorset Council is required to consult on changes to provision at Maintained Schools including the reduction in Admission Numbers (AN).
The proposed AN will apply to admissions to the relevant age group (the normal year of entry) commencing from the beginning of the school year 2027/28 and for any subsequent school year. Notice is hereby given for the following changes:
| School | Current AN | Proposed AN |
|---|---|---|
| Wyke Regis Junior School | 90 | 60 |
The reason for proposing lower AN is to set a level which more accurately reflects the number of actual admissions and enables the governing body of the relevant schools to plan more effectively for organisational and budgetary needs. Admissions to the schools will be in accordance with the admissions policy.
Currently the catchment area of Wyke Regis Junior School has a projection of less than 50 children of Year 3 age going forward for the next 3-4 year in the school catchment area. In order to make sure that the school can structure itself in an efficient way given these numbers, it is proposed that the school will only allocate 60 places for the Year 3 cohort in September 2027 and in subsequent years going forward.
Date: 3/11/2024
Please submit your comments by 14 December 2025.
